Mikey here.
It's been awhile, I know! I've been busy modeling for mom and helping her come up with ideas for her English Composition paper. So as you can see, my days have been pretty full.
Mom's spring break is coming up, and she's told us that we're going to be traveling, AGAIN.
We've already been to Iowa (Redding, Mt. Ayr, Des Moines, and Waukee) and Kansas (Topeka, Kansas City, Ft. Riley, and Junction City). So as you can see we are pretty well traveled.
But NOW we're going to... COLORADO!
That means we'll drive across Kansas for 12 hours and then up a mountain for another hour to where Mom's mom's mom lives.
We're told that it is GORGEOUS there and that we can have outdoor adventures there... See the lakes and mountains and perhaps ride horses even! Plus, Great Grandma is a GREAT cook, and she loves us little furry creatures so we will be very spoiled!
I can't wait!
Footnote by Denny: I can't wait to eat some of Great Grandma's pork loin... She's famous for it!

The More You Know...
There are a lot of misconceptions about rats that humans have, and I am here to clear up a few of those!
1) Our tails are NOT gross! They help us regulate our body temperatures and help us stay balanced.
2) We do not carry the plague. Fleas and lice do, though!
3) We are really clean critters, grooming ourselves constantly!

4) We have tongues.

5) We are social critters and need company of our own kind.

6) We also love the company of our human friends.

7) We eat a variety of different things, just like you do!

8) We like being petted.

And here are a few specific things about Mikey and Denny you may not know.
Denny is a huge Katherine Heigl fan.

Mikey loves cookies!

Denny loves ANYTHING food related.

Mikey and Denny both love to watch Grey’s Anatomy

Hello!
So, my name is Mikey. I am a rat. A very handsome rat, if I may say so myself. I have recently figured out how to run this laptop deal of my Mom’s, and decided to blog about my very interesting and adventurous rat life! My little brother Denny will also blog from time to time, although not as often as I do, because, he is not as cool as me.
I want to take this first post to just tell you who me and Denny are, so that you can get to know us.
We’re rats. We’re cool. I should just stop there, but you humans are so nosey I suppose I will have to go on!
My mom (Caitlyn) picked me up on a trip to St. Jo with her friends Anisha, Tarra, and Heaven. I was sitting there, looking too adorable for my own good, and I pulled a Meredith Grey: “Pick me, choose me, love me!” (Which also explains the picture at the bottom of our blog.) She couldn’t leave me there to be snake food, and so she took me home.
Did I mention, my mom is a college student? Living in the dorms? Where there are to be no pets except fish?
And yet here I am. At first, I was not delighted to be with this crazy lady I’d soon know as Mom. She smelled funny and I didn’t know her at all. She called me “Mikey”, and because I acted like I didn’t care about anything, her friend Anisha came up with the saying “Cool like Mikey”. After hearing about how cool I was, even Tarra came to love me! Eventually I got used to my mom, and I have been told I am the biggest sweetheart ever. I brux simply from being with my mom. I LOVE being petted, especially between my ears or on my cheeks. I don’t like being picked up (I’m to cool for that) but I will cuddle with you on your lap as long as you pet me and adore me like I deserve.
Handsome me!

Denny is a different story. He came from a rescue, and at first he wasn’t mom’s first choice. But after she brought him home, and she carried Denny around Wal-Mart in her pocket, she fell in love with Denny. For a long long time Denny didn’t even have a name. It took her all of Christmas break to come up with Denny. Her aunt kept insisting he be called Tar (rat spelled backward) or Biff, or some silly name like that, so mom just decided to call him Denny, after one of her favorite characters on Grey’s Anatomy (which she LOVES). Denny is a real twerp. He steals my food, he makes me play with him, and he runs around crazy. Mom says it’s just because he is a teenager that he is crazy, but I think it’s just Denny. He doesn’t mind being picked up at all, unlike me, and he bruxes just as easily! He will lay flat when Mom pets him, which looks silly if you ask me. We live together (because we rats need friends of our own kind as well as human friends) and we are actually quite happy, despite Denny being a brat of a rat.

So now you know us a bit better.
